As a Staff Software Engineer on Toast’s enterprise drive-thru team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction and architecture for our Android applications. You’ll define long-term strategies while ensuring immediate delivery needs are met, standardizing best practices across multiple teams to enhance efficiency and quality. Your responsibilities include architecting robust interfaces between mobile clients and backend services, designing scalable features, and collaborating with Product and UX leadership to drive innovation. With a strong background in Java and Kotlin for Android development, along with experience in distributed systems and microservices, you will contribute to building resilient solutions that support high-volume environments. Additionally, you’ll mentor peers, foster engineering excellence, and influence non-technical stakeholders to align technical goals with business objectives.
Define long-term technical strategy and architecture for the Drive-Thru domain.
Standardize Android best practices across Toast’s organization, influencing multiple teams.
Architect interfaces between mobile clients and complex backend services for offline-resiliency.
Design, build, deploy, and maintain highly resilient and scalable features in enterprise products.
Identify high-impact opportunities within the Drive-Thru ecosystem and partner with leadership.
What we're looking for
8+ years of experience developing and maintaining Android applications
Experience with distributed systems, enterprise messaging, and microservices
Proficiency in modern API standards like REST and GraphQL
Proven track record of leading teams through major architectural transformations
Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences and non-technical stakeholders
Passionate about driving innovation and improving engineering practices continuously
