TL;DR · Sr. Fellow, ML Workload Performance in San Jose, California | Advanced Micro Devices, Inc

As a Senior Fellow in Engineering at AMD, you will serve as a technical leader for machine learning workload performance and optimization across various frameworks and model architectures, focusing on deep technical leadership rather than management. Your primary responsibilities include defining the technical vision for performance optimization across multiple generations of AMD GPUs, leading through influence to set direction for optimization strategies, and accelerating support for emerging models. You will work closely with customers, business units, and engineering teams to develop performance projections, conduct analysis, and deliver innovative solutions. Essential skills include deep expertise in ML hardware architecture, software optimization, and performance modeling, as well as strong knowledge of modern generative model architectures and distributed inference. Preferred experience includes a track record of technical leadership at scale, proven impact on optimizing large-scale ML workloads, and the ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.

What you'll do

  • Define and drive the technical strategy for ML model optimization across AMD platforms.
  • Serve as the highest-level authority in performance optimization, guiding architecture decisions.
  • Lead performance tuning and analysis of large-scale models on single-node and distributed systems.
  • Develop methodologies and tools for performance estimation and benchmarking.
  • Influence future GPU architectures through hardware-software co-design initiatives.
  • Represent AMD in external technical forums and customer engagements.

What we're looking for

  • Extensive experience in performance engineering and ML systems at a senior level.
  • Deep expertise in performance analysis, modeling, and hardware/software co-optimization.
  • Proven track record of optimizing large-scale ML workloads on modern accelerator architectures.
  • Strong ability to influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Experience with state-of-the-art AI models including LLMs, diffusion, and multimodal systems.
  • PhD or master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • Knowledge of distributed inference and large-scale deployment of ML models.
