As a Senior Data Engineer at Disney Entertainment and ESPN Product & Technology, you will join the Product Performance Team within the Data Organization to develop reliable data solutions measuring product performance for Disney+. Your role involves designing, building, and testing core algorithms and data models using Scala and Python with frameworks like Spark on Databricks and Airflow. You will establish rigorous standards for code development, extend functionality by evolving existing data models, maintain high-quality source code, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver new data features. Key technologies include Airflow, Spark, Databricks, Delta Lake, Snowflake, GitHub Actions, and Jenkins. Additionally, you will proactively resolve complex pipeline issues, optimize performance, and provide mentorship on best practices within a modern tech stack.
Design and implement robust data solutions for batch ingestion and stream processing using Scala and Python.
Establish and enforce rigorous standards for code development, testing, and deployment to ensure high data quality.
Extend functionality of existing data models by developing new data pipelines with novel metrics and dimensions.
Investigate and resolve complex data pipeline failures through root cause analysis and comprehensive documentation.
Maintain and update source code that powers core datasets, ensuring strict adherence to quality standards.
Proactively identify technical optimizations to improve performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency of existing data pipelines.
What we're looking for
5+ years of experience developing large data pipelines
Proficient in Scala and Python for software engineering
Strong understanding of CI/CD and SDLC fundamentals
Experience with distributed systems like Spark and Kafka
Hands-on production experience with Airflow for orchestration
Expertise in SQL for complex dataset analysis
Willingness to learn new technologies and mentor others
