As a Senior Full Stack Software Engineer at Walmart, you will join the Marketplace API Gateway team to design and build high-scale distributed systems using Java, Rust, and NodeJS. Your day-to-day responsibilities include evolving the Marketplace API Gateway to handle high-volume traffic from sellers and solution partners, leading the development of the new mGQL gateway with Apollo GQL Federation Framework, and enhancing developer.walmart.com for intuitive end-to-end developer experiences. You will also extend the MCP gateway to enable agentic integrations within the Marketplace domain, ensuring reliability and observability across backend services. The role requires expertise in GraphQL, federated patterns, and modern front-end frameworks like React/TypeScript, as well as a passion for delivering seamless developer experiences and influencing architectural decisions across teams.
Design, build, and evolve high-scale distributed services for the Marketplace API Gateway.
Lead development of mGQL gateway including schema design, routing logic, and performance optimization.
Extend MCP gateway to enable agentic workflows and context-aware integrations across systems.
Implement best practices for resiliency, observability, rate limiting, and fault isolation in gateways.
Build seamless developer experiences through developer.walmart.com, enhancing onboarding flows and documentation.
What we're looking for
Strong experience in designing and operating large-scale distributed systems and API gateway platforms.
Deep expertise in GraphQL, including schema design, federation, and performance optimization.
Proficiency in backend languages such as Node.js, Java, or Rust.
Hands-on experience with modern front-end frameworks (React/TypeScript preferred).
Solid understanding of backend service reliability engineering, observability, and fault-tolerant architectures.
Experience building developer platforms, public APIs, and tooling focused on developer experience (DX).
Ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence architectural decisions across multiple teams.
