Senior Software Engineer I — Agentic Analytics

What you'll do

• Design and build LLM-powered systems that enhance data practitioners' interaction with data.
• Develop retrieval/grounding systems over internal metadata and code for AI-assisted workflows.
• Create evaluation frameworks to ensure the quality of AI-for-Data products in production.
• Embed intelligent capabilities across Instacart's broader data infrastructure ecosystem.
• Work closely with Data Science, ML, Product Engineering teams to identify high-leverage AI applications.

What we're looking for

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with a strong track record of shipping production systems.
• Proficiency in Python and hands-on experience building production services for large-scale applications.
• Expertise in applied LLM systems including RAG, agentic workflows, prompt engineering, and evaluations.
• Strong knowledge of SQL and working familiarity with data infrastructure technologies like Airflow, Snowflake, and dbt.
• Ability to collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams and manage ambiguity in a startup-like environment.
• Experience working with large codebases and balancing urgency with the delivery of high-quality solutions.
