Senior Manager Analytics, Artificial Intelligence R&D

What you'll do

• Set and communicate a bold technical vision for applied AI at Caterpillar.
• Define and shape high-impact advanced AI initiatives into production-intent prototypes.
• Lead the design of robust reference architectures for downstream engineering teams.
• Establish technical standards and evaluation criteria for AI R&D work.
• Partner with internal and external stakeholders to advance promising use cases.
• Hire, coach, and set modeling and engineering standards for senior team members.
• Drive cross-functional alignment with product management, software engineering, and partners.

What we're looking for

• Significant experience leading applied AI or AI R&D teams delivering production-intent prototypes and reference architectures.
• Strong command of Python-based ML stacks and modern AI frameworks with expertise in large language models and generative systems.
• Deep understanding of translating research into structured, production-intent prototypes and reference architectures for downstream engineering.
• Solid statistical foundation for evaluating AI systems, including A/B testing and rigorous measurement practices.
• Experience partnering with hyperscaler partners like AWS, Microsoft Azure, NVIDIA, or equivalent on AI projects.
• Familiarity with simulation environments to accelerate AI development for physical, real-world systems in industrial settings.
• Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or a related technical field.
