The Core Search and AI team at Bing is seeking a Senior Applied Scientist with extensive machine learning expertise to drive the development of next-generation search technologies using advanced AI, particularly large language models (LLMs), at scale. This role involves mastering subareas such as retrieval, ranking, and relevance systems, integrating LLMs into production environments, and advancing post-training techniques for improved model performance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machine learning, NLP, and experience with large-scale ML systems, along with proficiency in Python and other relevant tools. They will collaborate closely with researchers, engineers, and product teams to innovate and solve complex challenges, ensuring continuous improvement through rigorous experimentation and documentation. This position requires 6+ years of industry experience applying ML techniques or data analysis applications, ideally within the context of search, ads, or recommendation systems.
Develop deep knowledge of advanced research methodologies and applied techniques in AI technologies.
Design and implement novel methods to improve reasoning quality, safety, and factual grounding across large-scale models.
Build next-generation search capabilities by optimizing retrieval, ranking, and relevance systems integrated with LLMs.
Architect RAG pipelines to enhance retrieval fidelity, reduce hallucinations, and deliver context-aware responses in production.
Translate research into production by running experiments, analyzing results, and collaborating with engineering partners for deployment.
Monitor and evaluate model performance using quantitative metrics, qualitative assessments, and user-centric evaluation frameworks.
What we're looking for
Master's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
3+ years of industry experience applying machine learning techniques.
