Overview

Agentic developer tools are transforming how developers work and build software—automating tasks, encouraging experimentation, and streamlining collaboration. Visual Studio Code, the open-source AI code editor, and GitHub Copilot come together as pair programmer by performing asynchronous work alongside developers with their advanced coding agents, code completions, and refactoring.

We are looking for a Senior AI Agentic Developer Tools Advocate who will help developers worldwide leverage AI-driven development, guiding them through this rapidly changing landscape, and inspiring innovation. The right candidate would be a software developer who is focused on JavaScript & TypeScript, is interested in sharing their knowledge with other developers, creating educational content, delivering presentations, giving feedback to the product team, and engaging with developer communities online and in-person.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver technical presentations to developer audiences around VS Code, GitHub Copilot, and other AI developer tools.

  • Work side-by-side with the program management and engineering teams to drive the direction of AI developer tools from Microsoft.

  • Collaborate with community members and help build communities around VS Code, GitHub Copilot, and adjacent products from Microsoft.

  • Generate technical content for a variety of channels (website, blog, social media, events) such as How to / tips and tricks, samples, product deep dives, demos, screencasts, interesting stories.

  • Be on the constant lookout for opportunities to increase Microsoft’s visibility and leadership in the AI developer tools space.

  • Represent Microsoft at industry events.

  • Lead conversations online as a core member of the team and a respected industry thought leader.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A portfolio of demonstrable software development projects, videos, blogs, presentations, demos, or repos.

  • 2+ years of experience coding in JavaScript/TypeScript along with front-end or back-end web development experience.

  • In depth knowledge of current AI developer tools space and ability to demonstrate deep understanding of how AI shapes the developer lifecycle

  • Experience working with a range of AI developer tools including VS Code, GitHub Copilot, and other frameworks, tools, and/or services.

  • Familiarity with client-side browser architecture and understanding of how web standards are made.

  • Hands-on experience building and delivering full stack web applications.

  • Customer advocate with high agency and extreme ownership mindsets.

  • Sense of teamwork, personal integrity, responsibility, and integrity.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Technical Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
