TL;DR · Research Scientist, Generalist Embodied Agent Research - PhD New College Grad 2026

NVIDIA’s Generalist Embodied Agent Research (GEAR) group seeks a research scientist to advance the development of humanoid robot foundation models and systems. In this role, you will design and implement AI algorithms for general-purpose robots, develop large-scale training methods for foundation models, optimize models for physical simulation and hardware deployment, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate research into products. The ideal candidate holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience, excels in rapid prototyping using frameworks like PyTorch and Jax, and has hands-on expertise in training large language and multimodal models. Additionally, proficiency in reinforcement learning, robotics, and physics simulation tools such as MuJoCo is essential for this moonshot project aimed at creating versatile embodied agents capable of mastering complex skills across virtual and physical domains.

What you'll do

  • Design and implement novel AI algorithms for general-purpose humanoid robots.
  • Develop large-scale training methods for foundation models in robotics.
  • Optimize and deploy AI models on both simulation platforms and robot hardware.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research into products.
  • Conduct hands-on training of multimodal foundation models or large generative models.

What we're looking for

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent research experience.
  • Expertise in AI training frameworks (PyTorch, Jax, TensorFlow) with Python/C++ proficiency.
  • Hands-on experience and publications in LLMs, multimodal foundation models, or large generative models.
  • Experience in reinforcement learning, agent learning, and applied robotics.
  • Proficiency in robot kinematics, dynamics, sensors, and control methods (PID, MPC).
  • Familiarity with physics simulation frameworks like MuJoCo and Isaac Sim.
