As the Principal Engineer, Cloud Strategy Lead at LPL's AWS-first Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE), you will set and drive the multi-year technical strategy for cloud tooling, infrastructure as code (IaC), and developer experience across all five CCOE teams and Foundations pods. You will define Terraform code architecture standards, architect self-service platforms, establish IaC quality standards, and act as a primary technical liaison between CCOE and Enterprise Architecture, Information Security, and Application Engineering. This hands-on role involves extensive work with AWS services, Terraform Cloud, GitHub Actions, and Backstage-class internal developer platforms. You will mentor senior engineers across the organization, participate in on-call rotations, and champion the AWS Well-Architected Framework. The ideal candidate has over 10 years of cloud infrastructure experience, including hands-on production AWS at scale and extensive Terraform authoring expertise.

What you'll do

  • Set and evolve multi-year technical strategy for cloud tooling and IaC.
  • Define and govern Terraform code architecture standards, including module quality gates.
  • Architect self-service infrastructure vending platform with Account Factory for Terraform.
  • Establish enterprise standards for IaC quality, including security and compliance scanning.
  • Mentor senior engineers across CCOE through technical guidance and certification advice.

What we're looking for

  • Over 10 years of technical experience with at least 5 in cloud infrastructure or platform engineering leadership.
  • Extensive hands-on AWS production experience, including Terraform authoring and module ecosystem management.
  • Proven track record as a senior individual contributor influencing technical direction across multiple teams.
  • Experience leading and participating in 24x7 on-call rotations in a regulated environment.
  • Strong systems thinking and strategic communication skills, credible with both engineers and executives.
  • Expertise in setting vision and translating strategy into executable engineering roadmaps.
