As a Principal Data Scientist at Walmart, you will lead the data science roadmap for the experimentation platform that powers A/B testing across multiple channels and regions. This hands-on role involves defining scalable statistical frameworks, developing robust SQL and PySpark data models, and establishing canonical experiment metrics to ensure reliable outcomes. You will partner with engineering teams to modernize statistical tooling and extend measurement frameworks to emerging AI use cases like LLM evaluations and prompt evaluation. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in experimentation and causal inference, strong skills in SQL, PySpark, and Python, and experience building or scaling experimentation platforms at production scale. Additionally, familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, Airflow, and modern data workflow patterns is essential, as well as a background in e-commerce or retail environments where complex operational feedback loops are common.
Define and execute the multi-year data science roadmap for experimentation reporting and measurement services.
Design scalable statistical frameworks for online experiments across various use cases, including guardrails and heterogeneity analysis.
Partner with data engineering to improve correctness, speed, and reusability of experimentation data assets through robust data models and pipelines.
Establish canonical experiment metrics and reporting standards across different channels and regions.
Develop AI-native experimentation strategies, including frameworks for LLM evals and prompt evaluation.
Build proofs of concept using Python, SQL, Airflow, and GCP technologies to validate ideas before full-scale implementation.
What we're looking for
Deep expertise in experimentation, causal inference, and statistical decision-making at scale.
Strong hands-on experience with SQL, PySpark, and high-volume distributed data pipelines.
Experience building or scaling experimentation platforms and internal measurement tooling.
Knowledge of advanced experimentation methods including Bayesian testing and observational causal inference.
