TL;DR · Optical Engineer, Design & Architecture

The Imaging team is seeking an Optical Engineer to lead design and architecture for a growing product line, transitioning from prototyping to production. This role involves making critical architectural decisions, designing high-performance imaging systems, defining optical performance requirements, and developing test setups for R&D to production transitions. The ideal candidate will have expertise in optical design software like Zemax or CodeV, STOP analysis, and experience with complex opto-mechanical systems such as LIDAR and adaptive optics. They should also possess a BS in Engineering or Physics/Astronomy, 5+ years of relevant industry experience, and secret security clearance, with preference for those demonstrating leadership and mentoring skills in optical system integration and performance verification.

What you'll do

  • Lead architecture decisions and optical trades for novel optical systems.
  • Design lenses and optical components for high-performance imaging systems.
  • Define optical performance requirements considering multi-disciplinary constraints.
  • Transition prototypes to production fieldable systems efficiently.
  • Develop test setups, procedures, and data for transitioning products.

What we're looking for

  • BS in Engineering or Physics/Astronomy with a concentration in Optics required.
  • 5+ years of experience in complex opto-mechanical systems design, analysis, and testing.
  • Expertise in optical design software such as Zemax or CodeV.
  • Experience with STOP (Structural, Thermal, and Optical Performance) analysis.
  • Secret security clearance required.
