TL;DR · Motion Sensing Hardware Engineer

As a Motion Sensing Hardware Engineer at Apple, you will join the dedicated Motion Sensing Hardware Team as a senior-level contributor, focusing on integrating MEMS and magnetic sensing technologies across Apple’s product line. Your daily tasks will include evaluating and driving sensor design, developing measurement methods for system validation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure performance metrics meet feature requirements. You will need expertise in sensor architecture, characterization, and validation, along with proficiency in scripting languages like Python or Matlab for analysis. This role demands a deep understanding of motion sensors, including magnetic, inertial, and pressure types, as well as strong analytical and communication skills to engage effectively with suppliers and resolve complex engineering issues.

What you'll do

  • Evaluate and drive the design and integration of advanced motion sensors into Apple products.
  • Diagnose engineering issues using scientific methods to determine root causes accurately.
  • Develop new sensing system metrics that enhance performance and user perception.
  • Create repeatable and automated measurement methods for thorough sensor validation.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve issues related to manufacturing specifications.
  • Support engineering builds by conducting performance validations and yield optimizations.

What we're looking for

  • BS degree in relevant field with at least 3 years of industry experience
  • Expertise in motion sensors (magnetic, inertial, pressure) and associated physics
  • Strong background in sensor integration into products, linking user requirements to component specifications
  • Experience in designing, characterizing, and validating sensing systems including signal processing and trade-offs
  • Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or MATLAB for instrumentation and analysis
  • Excellent critical thinking, statistical analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Solid communication, collaboration, and leadership abilities across multidisciplinary teams
