Join the core machine learning and data science team at Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (MDE), a critical product safeguarding over a billion end users from cybersecurity threats. Ideal candidates have a PhD or extensive experience in software development, cybersecurity, and anomaly detection, along with expertise in machine learning methods and OS internals.

What you'll do

  • Investigate and analyze ongoing cybersecurity attacks to develop effective detection and prevention strategies.
  • Design and maintain ML and automation systems for client-side and cloud-based cybersecurity protection.
  • Experiment with large language models and agentic systems to enhance customer security and internal processes.
  • Support incident management by diagnosing issues, triaging problems, and participating in postmortem analysis.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to establish partnerships that advance the product's maturity.

What we're looking for

  • Doctorate in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or related field, or 7+ years of experience in software development lifecycle.
  • At least 2 years of coding experience and 1 year each with language models and machine learning.
  • Proven leadership in security initiatives and research publication.
  • Experience mentoring researchers and guiding them through projects.
  • Strong background in OS internals, hypervisors, and cloud security architectures.
