As a Principal Security Engineer on the Copilot Security and Privacy team, you will design and build adaptive security systems for an agentic AI platform that can plan, reason, and act autonomously. Your daily tasks include developing novel security mechanisms such as real-time intent validation and information-flow controls, eliminating vulnerabilities through secure-by-default APIs, and building offensive security tooling to continuously test the system’s resilience. You will collaborate closely with AI researchers and product teams to translate research into production-ready features, write high-quality code in languages like Python or Java, and use data-driven analysis to detect threats. This role requires a deep understanding of large-scale computing, threat modeling, and experience securing distributed systems on cloud platforms, as well as the ability to navigate ambiguity and make sound engineering decisions in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll do

Design secure platform components supporting Copilot’s agentic workflows in cloud and device environments.
Develop novel security mechanisms, including real-time intent validation and information-flow controls for AI systems.
Create secure-by-default APIs and sandboxing layers to eliminate classes of vulnerabilities.
Build offensive security tooling to continuously probe and test Copilot’s autonomy and trust boundaries.
Translate research into production-ready security features by partnering with AI researchers and platform engineers.

What we're looking for

Doctorate in a relevant field with 3+ years of experience or equivalent.
Design and build systems to detect, prevent, or mitigate security threats.
Solid coding skills in languages like C++, Java, Python, etc.
Experience designing, building, and operating production systems at scale.
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
Proven ability to design secure system interfaces and abstractions.
