Materials Engineer, Metals

What you'll do

• Own the lifecycle of cast and welded components from material selection to field performance.
• Establish internal specifications and test protocols for castings and welds tailored to mission requirements.
• Lead supplier qualification and technical development of foundries and welding shops.
• Design and execute characterization programs using metallography, SEM/EDS, mechanical testing, and NDT.
• Partner with design teams during early development to influence geometry and joint design before drawings are released.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's or higher in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field.
• 2-5 years of hands-on industry experience with castings and welding in demanding applications like aerospace or defense.
• Deep understanding of metallurgical principles for solidification phenomena, weld metallurgy, HAZ behavior, residual stresses, and failure mechanisms.
• Practical expertise in developing weld procedures (WPS/PQR) and qualification testing per AWS, AMS, MIL-STD standards.
• Strong analytical skills with a systematic approach to problem-solving and troubleshooting complex issues.
• Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings including weld symbols, GD&T, casting tolerances, and guiding design engineers.
