Who we are looking for

The Global Experience Design team is building a shared design system and front-end platform that delivers reusable components, layouts, design tokens, theming, and UI engineering capabilities to support enterprise-wide digital experiences at State Street.

The design system is designed to enable consistent, accessible, and scalable user experiences across products by providing shared front-end foundations, reusable UI patterns, and modern engineering workflows for enterprise application teams.

We are seeking a Front End React UI Engineer to help build intuitive, scalable, and high-quality user experiences across the SSDS platform. This role will focus on developing modern front-end applications, reusable UI components, and shared design system capabilities that support enterprise products and front-end teams across the organization.

Why this role is important to us

Within SSDS, this role is important because the design system serves as a shared foundation for product teams building enterprise applications across the organization. The Front End React UI Engineer helps ensure that shared components, styling patterns, accessibility practices, and front-end standards are implemented consistently and at high quality, enabling teams to move faster while delivering a more unified user experience.

What you will be responsible for

As a Front End React UI Engineer, you will:

  • Build and maintain responsive, accessible, and performant front-end applications, reusable UI components, and design system capabilities for SSDS.
  • Translate product, UX, and business requirements into clean, maintainable, and reusable UI components and application features.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to deliver workflow-driven user experiences in an iterative, product-led model.
  • Develop front-end integrations with APIs, shared services, and platform capabilities.
  • Contribute to reusable design systems, front-end standards, and engineering best practices.
  • Help implement agent-assisted and AI-enabled user experiences with a strong focus on clarity, trust, transparency, and usability.
  • Write well-tested, secure, and maintainable code that meets enterprise quality and compliance expectations.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement of front-end architecture and development processes.

What we value

These skills will help you succeed in this role:

  • Proven experience building modern front-end applications in a professional engineering environment.
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript and TypeScript, with strong hands-on expertise in React and modern front-end application development.
  • Experience developing reusable UI components, application shells, and scalable client-side architecture.
  • Experience working with Tailwind CSS, utility-first CSS frameworks, or comparable front-end styling systems.
  • Experience working with design systems, reusable component libraries, and token-driven UI development.
  • Solid understanding of front-end fundamentals including state management, performance optimization, accessibility, and responsive design.
  • Experience building accessible user interfaces and applying accessibility best practices and standards.
  • Experience consuming REST APIs and working with back-end services in distributed systems.
  • Experience with modern front-end tooling such as Vite, Vitest, Storybook, or similar development workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and UX teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in building polished, user-centered interfaces.
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving enterprise environment with evolving priorities and complex workflows.

Education & Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in front-end engineering or full-stack development with a strong front-end focus.
  • Demonstrated expertise building production-grade applications with React.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience working within a large, regulated enterprise environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with design systems, component libraries, and accessibility standards such as WCAG is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CSS variables, theming systems, and scalable styling patterns for enterprise applications is a plus.
  • Experience with data-rich applications, workflow platforms, or enterprise SaaS products is a plus.
  • Exposure to AI-enabled products, intelligent automation, or human-in-the-loop workflow applications is a plus.

Work Requirement

  • Expected to work 4 days a week in the office.
  • Candidates should be comfortable working within established team working hours and supporting collaboration across business functions and time zones as needed.
