The director will architect scalable systems using technologies like Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, and Python, and collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize the development backlog. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting complex operational issues in legacy codebases (Perl, Python, Sybase) and overseeing contingent workers. Ideal candidates have extensive experience in financial services data engineering, strong managerial skills, and knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, and cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Manage and mentor a team of alternative data pipeline engineers, ensuring high performance.
Establish and enforce best practices for code quality, agile development, CI/CD procedures, and testing frameworks.
Architect scalable and reliable systems that process data into multiple Aladdin BlackRock instances daily.
Provide level-3 support to troubleshoot complex operational issues related to the alternative data pipeline.
Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize development backlog and define future state for Alternative data at BlackRock.
Research and evaluate innovative technologies to transform legacy processes onto Enterprise Data Platform (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow).
What we're looking for
15+ years of experience in big data, data warehousing, and data engineering with at least 8 years in a leadership role.
BS/MS in Computer Science or related field; graduate degree in Finance or MBA preferred.
Strong knowledge of ETL/ELT tools, relational databases, advanced SQL development, and data modeling.
Experience in Financial Services, particularly with alternative data pipeline systems.
Excellent managerial skills for global teams, including hiring, mentoring, and budget management.
Proficiency in Python and experience with Perl; familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure preferred.
Strong understanding of DataOps concepts, CI/CD practices, and Agile software development methodologies.
