General Summary:
Qualcomm’s Automotive Customer Engineering (CE) organization partners with leading global OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers to bring next-generation digital cockpit and IVI solutions to market. The CE team is highly cross-functional, requiring deep technical expertise, strong debugging capabilities, and excellent customer-facing communication skills.
As a Staff Engineer on the Audio Customer Engineering team, you will serve as the technical go-to expert for all audio-related aspects of Qualcomm’s automotive platforms. You will work directly with strategic customers to design, integrate, optimize, and commercialize advanced automotive audio solutions. This role involves debugging complex, system-level issues across software frameworks, DSPs, operating systems, and customer applications, while influencing both Qualcomm’s technology roadmap and customer designs through technical leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary audio technical owner for one or more key automotive customers using Snapdragon Automotive platforms (Gen3, Gen4, Gen4.5, Gen5).
- Lead audio bring-up, integration, and optimization on customer platforms, including routing, latency, performance, and robustness.
- Debug and resolve complex audio issues across:
- DSP-based audio processing chains
- Audio HALs and frameworks (e.g., AudioReach, AudioLite, Android Audio)
- Middleware and customer applications
- Collaborate closely with internal teams including Audio Software, Core Software, BSP, Multimedia, and Platform teams to:
- Reproduce and root-cause customer-reported issues
- Drive fixes and patches into mainline branches and customer baselines
- Provide design feedback to improve system quality and debuggability
- Develop comprehensive engineer-level documentation for internal and customer use.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations, design reviews, and training sessions for customers and internal stakeholders.
- Represent Customer Engineering in architecture discussions, program reviews, and cross-functional initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 4+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
Master's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 3+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
OR
PhD in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2+ years of Software Engineering or related work experience.
• 2+ years of work experience with Programming Language such as C, C++, Java, Python, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 8+ years of experience in embedded systems with focus on one or more of the following:
- Multimedia (audio, video)
- Virtualization
- BSP / bootloader
- Compute, AI, or machine vision
- Platform security
- Experience working with Automotive OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, or in a Customer Engineering / Field Applications role.
- Knowledge of Qualcomm Automotive SoCs and audio frameworks (Elite, AudioReach, AudioLite) or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with:
- Android Automotive OS and audio HAL
- ALSA-based automotive audio use cases (hands-free, media, navigation, IVI chimes, ANC/ASE, RSE, etc.)
- Diagnostics, logging, and performance tuning on automotive platforms
- Experience with automation and scripting (Python, shell, etc.) and test framework development.
- Understanding of functional safety, security, or QoS considerations in automotive systems.

Demonstrated ability to drive cross-team alignment, influence design decisions, and provide technical leadership.

Strong experience with embedded software development on Linux and/or Android; familiarity with QNX is a plus.
- Hands-on experience in at least one of the following areas:
- Audio frameworks (Android Audio, ALSA, AudioReach, GStreamer-based pipelines, etc.)
- DSP-based audio processing (routing, mixing, effects, post-processing)
- IVI / automotive infotainment audio integration
- Proficiency in C/C++ and embedded debugging tools (GDB, log analysis, tracing, etc.).
- Proven ability to debug complex, multi-component issues spanning OS, drivers, middleware, and applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience interfacing directly with external customers.
- Ability to independently own issues end-to-end and drive them to closure under tight schedules.

Pay range and Other Compensation & Benefits:
$134,800.00 - $202,200.00
The above pay scale reflects the broad, minimum to maximum, pay scale for this job code for the location for which it has been posted. Even more importantly, please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Qualcomm.
