What you'll do

  • Design and develop advanced control systems for precision aerospace mechanisms.
  • Conduct research and development of quantum-sensing-based guidance and navigation algorithms.
  • Create controls test beds to demonstrate pointing and stabilization system performance.
  • Synthesize and analyze control systems for spacecraft and large optical telescopes.
  • Develop high-bandwidth precision mechanism designs through simulation and testing.

What we're looking for

  • PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering with at least 10 years of professional experience
  • Experience in generating Simulink models and performing time-domain and frequency-domain analyses using Matlab's Simulink
  • Strong background in research and development of control systems for precision mechanisms and guidance & navigation systems applied to aerospace
  • Advanced knowledge of classical and state-space optimal control methods, rigid- and flexible-body dynamics, vibrations, and multi-rigid-body dynamics modeling from first principles
  • Required graduate curriculum includes multi rigid-body dynamics and kinematics, linear systems theory, classical control, optimal control, digital control, Kalman filtering, statistics, vector calculus, differential equations, numerical analysis
