As an Applied AI Engineer at VMware Cloud Foundation’s AI and Advanced Services team, you will work with senior engineers and technologists to design and implement enterprise-scale AI infrastructure solutions. Your responsibilities include optimizing AI workloads for maximum efficiency, leveraging runtime data for performance improvements, and collaborating across product, engineering, and AI platform teams. This role demands expertise in AI infrastructure, hands-on experience with agentic AI coding tools like Cursor or Codex, and strong analytical skills to solve complex technical challenges. You will need a deep understanding of cloud services, APIs, and data pipelines, along with the ability to communicate effectively through technical writing and presentations. The ideal candidate has a background in computer science or machine learning and experience scaling novel concepts into production solutions.
Design and implement enterprise-scale AI infrastructure solutions for seamless agent deployment.
Develop optimizations for AI workloads to maximize hardware utilization and efficiency.
Analyze VCF runtime data to derive insights for performance and scalability improvements.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver highly performant, cost-effective AI solutions.
Manage stakeholders effectively to solve ambiguous technical challenges aligned with the team's strategy.
What we're looking for
Deep practical knowledge of AI infrastructure designs, including APIs, cloud services, and data pipelines.
Hands-on experience with agentic AI coding tools such as Cursor, Codex, or Claude Code.
Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex technical challenges independently and collaboratively.
BS/MS/PhD in computer science, machine learning, or equivalent practical experience with specialization in cloud infrastructure.
Proven track record of engineering novel concepts into scalable product solutions.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills demonstrated through publications or presentations.
