TL;DR · Systems Engineer, Electro Optical, Space

As an Electro Optical System Engineer at the senior level for our Space team, you will play a pivotal role in integrating EO payloads onto spacecraft from concept development through on-orbit execution. Your responsibilities include deriving system requirements, performing hands-on characterization and calibration of optical payloads using advanced test equipment like collimators and interferometers, and training other professionals to conduct successful payload testing. You’ll work closely with various engineering disciplines to author Interface Control Documents and manage technical risk during integration. The ideal candidate has a strong background in systems or electrical engineering, experience with professional optical test equipment, and knowledge of photon transfer, radiometry, and responsivity analyses. Familiarity with tools such as ImageJ, Python, and Zemax is preferred, and hands-on experience in cleanroom environments is essential.

What you'll do

  • Derive system and unit level requirements for EO payloads.
  • Perform hands-on characterization and calibration of optical payloads using test equipment.
  • Train other professionals in the use of optical test equipment and methodologies.
  • Develop payload data calibration algorithms and integrate them into processing pipelines.
  • Define on-orbit calibration sequences and provide real-time engineering support during operations.
  • Facilitate communication between different engineering teams to resolve complex integration issues.

What we're looking for

  • Strong engineering background in Systems Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience conducting assembly, integration, and test of space payload flight hardware with performance characterization.
  • Deep understanding of professional optical test equipment and methodologies tied to underlying physics.
  • Experience with advanced payload analyses including photon transfer, radiometry, responsivity, and distortion mapping.
  • Ability to write technical documentation, procedures, and reports for complex projects.
  • Experience working in cleanroom environments and handling ESD-safe materials.
