As a Staff Software Engineer on the AI Platform team within the Platform group at Coinbase, you will lead the development and operation of large language model (LLM) and agent infrastructure that supports every team in the company. This role requires deep expertise in LLM orchestration patterns, vector databases, and model serving infrastructure, as well as fluency in Python and a systems language like Go or Rust for building APIs and microservices. The position involves shaping applied AI strategy by embedding with teams to develop production agents and applying fine-tuning techniques where appropriate.

What you'll do

Own architecture and delivery of core platform systems like LLM Gateway and agent runtime.
Drive design and implementation of Knowledge Base infrastructure for data source integration.
Lead AI FinOps capabilities including spend attribution and cost optimization across workloads.
Build evaluation and observability tooling, such as full tracing and feedback loops for agents.
Embed with teams to build production agents using fine-tuning and traditional ML techniques.
Partner with security, legal, finance, and product teams to ship governed AI systems.

What we're looking for

Over 8 years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years in ML/AI infrastructure and LLM systems.
Proven leadership in multi-quarter initiatives with end-to-end responsibility from design to production operation.
Expertise in LLM orchestration, agent frameworks, vector databases, and model serving across multiple providers.
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with security, legal, finance, and product teams for AI governance.
Fluency in Python and a systems language (Go, Rust, or C++) with experience building APIs and microservices.
Experience leading the design and implementation of Knowledge Base infrastructure and AI FinOps capabilities.
