As a Senior Cloud Software Engineer at IBM Cloud Core Platform Services in Austin, TX, you will join an agile team dedicated to developing and deploying innovative cloud services. Your daily responsibilities include designing and implementing highly available, distributed cloud services with a focus on security, scalability, and user experience using technologies like Java, Node.js, Golang, Docker, Kubernetes, and Istio. You will also read open specifications, convert them into design documents, and mentor team members while continuously improving existing tools and workflows. This role requires 10+ years of professional software development experience in complex enterprise systems, with expertise in backend and distributed systems, cloud platforms, web technologies, and AI integration within the SDLC. You will contribute to a world-class user experience for IBM Cloud customers by delivering robust, scalable solutions at scale.
Design and implement production-grade cloud services with emphasis on security, scalability, and user experience.
Convert open specifications into detailed design documents and subsequent implementations for cloud services.
Identify and act on opportunities to improve existing tools, frameworks, and workflows within the team.
Mentor other engineers and contribute to the architecture and design of cloud services.
Troubleshoot complex issues and drive them to resolution in highly available distributed systems.
What we're looking for
10+ years of professional software development experience delivering complex enterprise-grade systems.
5+ years of hands-on experience designing and building production-grade applications using Java, Node.js, Golang, or modern data stores like NoSQL databases and Redis.
Proven experience in designing and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, secure distributed systems at scale.
5+ years of experience building, deploying, and operating cloud services on platforms such as IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, with proficiency in containers, Kubernetes, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines.
Strong ability to design clean, developer-friendly APIs using modern web and API technologies like HTTP, RESTful services, JSON, HTML, JavaScript.
