The Hartford seeks a Sr Staff Software Engineer to join its Personal Lines Quality Engineering team, focusing on strategic investment portfolio delivery. This role involves designing and evolving quality engineering practices across hybrid technology landscapes, including modern cloud-native platforms and vendor-based systems. Day-to-day responsibilities include defining quality engineering strategies, implementing robust automated test frameworks, resolving complex defects, improving system reliability, mentoring engineers, and driving AI-driven innovation in testing. The ideal candidate has over 8 years of software engineering experience with a focus on Quality Engineering, Test Automation, and leadership roles. They should be proficient in Java, .NET, SaaS, COTS, Mainframe technologies, cloud-native applications, API testing, and modern test tools like Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, JUnit/TestNG, NUnit, and PyTest. Experience with AI and GenAI tools is preferred, as well as a background in insurance or financial services.
Define and govern Quality Engineering strategy to ensure consistent, scalable high-quality delivery.
Design and maintain automated test frameworks for reliable validation of complex systems.
Resolve complex defects and improve system observability through direct code contributions.
Facilitate end-to-end quality execution from ideation to production for business capabilities.
Mentor engineers on quality engineering best practices and scalable test design approaches.
Drive adoption of AI tools to enhance testing efficiency and overall engineering productivity.
What we're looking for
8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in Quality Engineering roles.
Expertise in test automation for diverse platforms including cloud-native applications on AWS/GCP.
Advanced skills in designing and scaling test automation frameworks using modern tools like Playwright, Cypress, Selenium.
Proven ability to define and track quality metrics to drive measurable improvements in defect reduction.
Demonstrated experience testing within Agile and Scaled Agile frameworks, including sprint-level validation.
Strong leadership and strategic balance, influencing quality practices across teams and technology stacks.
