As a Senior Software Engineer on Coalition’s Scanning Engine & Data Collection team, you will lead the design and implementation of large-scale cloud services that continuously scan the internet and customer environments to collect security data. Your daily tasks include designing high-quality Python and Go services for scanning workflows, improving system performance and reliability, and collaborating with security, product, and data teams to evolve the architecture. You’ll also mentor engineers across a distributed team while ensuring technical excellence through rigorous code reviews and documentation. This role requires strong experience in backend systems design, proficiency in cloud-native environments, and hands-on expertise in building scanning or detection engines. Ideal candidates will have cyber security domain knowledge and thrive in a fast-paced environment where quality and security are paramount.

What you'll do
Own end-to-end systems design for key scanning engine components.
Design and implement high-quality services in Python and Go for scanning workflows.
Improve performance, scalability, and reliability of the scanning engine.
Translate detection and scanning requirements into robust production-ready systems.
Mentor other engineers through design feedback and knowledge sharing on systems.
Diagnose and resolve complex production issues related to scanning accuracy and stability.

What we're looking for
5+ years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer in backend or systems-level services.
Proficiency in Python and/or Go, with capability to work across both languages.
Expertise in designing distributed or high-availability services focusing on scalability, reliability, and observability.
Hands-on experience building scanning, detection, or similar engine-like systems.
Strong software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and performance optimization.
Experience working in a cloud-native environment with microservices, containers, CI/CD, monitoring, and logging.
