As a Senior Software Engineer on Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology's Growth & Commerce Platform Growth Life Orchestration Team in New York City, you will work closely with Product and Business teams to develop a future-proof API layer that exposes commerce lifecycle platform capabilities to various clients. Your day-to-day responsibilities include designing robust API contracts, developing scalable microservices, creating technical proposals, understanding key dependencies such as subscription, billing, and payment systems, and contributing to the end-to-end software development lifecycle from conceptualization through testing and launch. The role requires strong Java server-side development skills, experience with AI tooling like Claude Code or Cursor, familiarity with technologies such as Spinnaker, Kubernetes, Spring WebFlux, GraphQL, gRPC, AWS, and Terraform, and a commitment to quality-first practices including test automation and CI/CD. This position involves working at scale with high RPS throughput in a fast-paced environment focused on modernizing Disney's platform by centralizing commerce capabilities into a shared layer for efficient feature delivery.
Design and develop a future-proof API layer for the commerce lifecycle platform.
Review and create robust API contracts and scalable microservices for internal clients.
Assist in creating technical proposals illustrating high-level design and system flow.
Understand core dependencies such as subscription, billing, and payment systems.
Contribute to the end-to-end software development lifecycle from conceptualization to measurement.
Collaborate with Product teams to translate requirements into technical implementation.
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years of related work experience in software engineering
Strong Java server-side development and API design skills
Experience with high RPS throughput and scalable microservices
Familiarity with SQL, CI/CD, test automation, and quality-first mindset
Collaboration and communication skills for technical proposals and requirements translation
Knowledge of modern frameworks like Spring WebFlux or GraphQL integration
Experience with Kubernetes, Spinnaker, AWS, Terraform, and AI tooling preferred
