As the engineering anchor of Zip’s new Internal AI team, you will lead the development and deployment of central platform capabilities that accelerate AI adoption across non-software engineering teams. What you'll do

  • Build central platform capabilities used by non-software engineering teams.
  • Review and recommend appropriate paths for non-product AI use cases.
  • Set and enforce application-level standards for integration patterns and data handling.
  • Serve as the single interface between business units and core Engineering for infrastructure needs.
  • Develop custom solutions to production standards when no off-the-shelf options are suitable.

What we're looking for

  • 6+ years of experience building and operating backend applications in production.
  • Strong understanding of hosting, identity management, secrets handling, and data flow.
  • Ability to review and recommend architectural patterns for both engineers and non-engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with modern AI tools like Claude Code, Cowork, MCP, LLM APIs.
  • Pragmatic approach to selecting the most appropriate tool or solution for a given task.
  • Strong communication skills to consult and guide teams without becoming a blocker.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments where paved roads are not yet established.
