As the engineering anchor of Zip’s new Internal AI team, you will lead the development and deployment of central platform capabilities that accelerate AI adoption across non-software engineering teams. Your day-to-day involves reviewing use cases, recommending appropriate solutions, setting application-level standards, and serving as a single interface between business units and core Engineering for infrastructure needs. You must have at least six years of experience building backend applications in production with a strong understanding of modern AI tooling like Claude Code and MCP. Additionally, you should possess an architectural mindset, be adept at communication, and thrive in ambiguous environments where you can guide teams without becoming a bottleneck. Experience with Zip’s tech stack or similar tools such as AWS, Snowflake, and Salesforce is beneficial.

What you'll do

  • Build central platform capabilities used by non-software engineering teams.

  • Develop custom solutions to production standards when no off-the-shelf options are suitable.

What we're looking for

  • 6+ years of experience building and operating backend applications in production.
  • Strong understanding of hosting, identity management, secrets handling, and data flow.
  • Ability to review and recommend architectural patterns for both engineers and non-engineers.
  • Hands-on experience with modern AI tools like Claude Code, Cowork, MCP, LLM APIs.
  • Pragmatic approach to selecting the most appropriate tool or solution for a given task.
  • Strong communication skills to consult and guide teams without becoming a blocker.
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous environments where paved roads are not yet established.
