Role Details

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer who is a self-starter, daring, and willing to question assumptions, to design, scale, and evolve the critical systems that power Apple’s global pricing. You will have the courage and experience to be frank and ambitious, yet humble enough to listen to others, as you take on problems under deadlines and deliver turnkey solutions. Architect and build distributed, fault-tolerant services that scale with Apple’s global commerce ecosystem, demonstrating a deep understanding of highly scalable backend applications. Own critical components like Pricing Cache 2 (PC2), which provides reliable and efficient pricing lookups at Apple scale, ensuring accuracy and performance. Design and implement developer-facing APIs, with a deep understanding of HTTP and REST APIs, enabling Apple Developers to configure offers and subscriptions with accuracy and confidence. Partner closely with cross-functional teams (Commerce, Finance, AppleCare, and Apple Services) to ensure pricing accuracy, compliance, and tax/royalty correctness, fostering strong collaboration. Drive modernization of the pricing codebase, establishing coding patterns and standards across multiple repositories, with high test automation, observability, and monitoring. Mentor engineers, providing guidance on writing efficient, maintainable, and testable code, and influence architectural decisions across Pricing Infrastructure. Be empowered to challenge the status quo, care about the details, the end user, and how it all comes together, as you build new features, data models, and user workflows. 8+ current and industry years experience of crafting, implementing, and supporting highly scalable backend applications. Proven expertise in designing and building large-scale distributed systems. Expert experience with Java (or Scala). Meaningful experience with SQL & NoSQL technologies (e.g., Oracle, Cassandra) and messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka). Demonstrated grasp of multi-threaded, asynchronous programming concepts. A deep understanding of HTTP and REST APIs. Ability to design and establish coding patterns/standards across multiple code repositories. Proven track record to re-architect an expansive codebase while transitioning to new technologies/frameworks. Strong background in Unix/Unix-like systems. Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a strong ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship. BSCS or equivalent work experience. Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering (e.g., Copilot, Claude Code, LLM-based workflows). Experience with caching strategies, observability tooling, and system performance tuning.
