TL;DR · Mechanical Engineer, Satellite Payload (Starlink)

As a Mechanical Engineer at SpaceX in the satellite payload group, you will join a dynamic team working on cutting-edge hardware for the Starlink constellation, which currently serves tens of millions of customers across over 120 countries. Your role involves solving complex structural and thermal challenges while collaborating with cross-functional teams to design and manufacture high-speed internet-enabling components such as phased array antennas, gimballing parabolic antennas, actuators, and mechanisms. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of hardware from conceptualization through production and on-orbit operation within a tight timeline of less than one year. Proficiency in mechanical/electromechanical design, analysis, testing, PCB layout, RF, and antenna design is essential, along with experience working closely with electronic designers and familiarity with programming languages.

What you'll do

  • Design and develop mechanical components for satellite payloads.
  • Conduct thermal, structural, and electromechanical analyses on space-grade hardware.
  • Collaborate with RF and antenna designers to integrate PCB layouts.
  • Ensure hardware transitions smoothly from design through high-volume production.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to actuators and mechanisms in satellites.

What we're looking for

  • 1+ years of professional experience in mechanical or electromechanical design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing.
  • Experience working with PCB, RF, and antenna designers; exposure to PCB layout and PCBA mechanical design required.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language.
  • Ability to own hardware from conceptual design through high volume production within a year.
  • Exposure to material science, electromagnetics, and microelectronics challenges.
