TL;DR

The Ontologist (Knowledge Graph Engineer) at the Customer Data Ecosystem (CDE) is a senior-level role responsible for designing and operationalizing enterprise semantic models to enable trusted analytics, AI, and agentic systems. This involves creating ontologies and knowledge graphs that standardize business meaning across domains, ensuring LLMs and agents can consume governed context and rules. The engineer will work with architects and engineers to embed semantic models into data products and pipelines, aligning them with enterprise governance standards while promoting best practices for ontology reuse. Key technologies include RDF, OWL, SPARQL, and graph databases like Neo4j or Neptune, alongside experience in AI consumption patterns and integrating semantic layers with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, and Snowflake.

What you'll do

  • Lead the design of enterprise-scale semantic layers to standardize business meaning.
  • Define and operationalize ontologies for reasoning, explainability, and decision intelligence.
  • Enable AI systems to consume governed business context through semantic-first approaches.
  • Embed semantic models into data products and AI pipelines for production use.
  • Drive adoption of Agentic Data Engineering through patterns, playbooks, and deployments.
  • Ensure alignment of ontologies with enterprise data governance and quality standards.

What we're looking for

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in semantic layer architecture and ontology modeling at enterprise scale.
  • Deep expertise with RDF, OWL, RDFS, SKOS, SPARQL, and W3C semantic web standards.
  • Proven track record designing and operating knowledge graphs integrated with LLMs and AI pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with graph or triple-store technologies like Neo4j, Neptune, TigerGraph.
  • Strong understanding of AI consumption patterns including embeddings, grounding, and explainability.
  • Ability to translate complex domain knowledge into formal, machine-readable semantic structures.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills for enterprise-wide adoption.
