Join The Hartford as a Senior Data Scientist in the Horizontal AI Products Team, where you will drive innovation by exploring emerging Generative AI models and techniques. Your day-to-day responsibilities include conducting applied research, designing evaluation frameworks, and prototyping new products that leverage modern GenAI tooling such as Vertex AI, LangChain, and Hugging Face ecosystems. What you'll do
Conduct applied research in Generative AI to address enterprise use cases.
Lead investigations into agent-based reasoning workflows and retrieval-augmented generation.
Design rigorous evaluation frameworks for model quality, robustness, and reliability.
Prototype new GenAI products using modern tooling like Vertex AI and LangChain.

What we're looking for
Masters and 5+ years or PhD with 3+ years of industry experience in machine learning/data science, including 1+ year focused on Generative AI.
Strong proficiency in Python and modern AI/ML frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch.
Experience designing experiments, evaluating models, and drawing conclusions from empirical results.
Hands-on expertise with Generative AI platforms such as Vertex AI, LangChain/LangGraph, Hugging Face, and OpenAI APIs.
Deep understanding of agent workflows, prompt engineering, RAG design trade-offs, and generative model evaluation techniques.
Proven ability to collaborate with engineering teams to transition research prototypes into production systems.
