As an Engineer I on Invenergy’s Interconnections and Grid Analysis team in Chicago, you will perform technical analysis to support the interconnection process for generation projects across various RTO/ISO regions like WECC, SPP, MISO, and PJM. Your day-to-day responsibilities include conducting power flow analyses, evaluating market rules, reviewing utility studies, identifying new transmission project opportunities, and collaborating with regulatory teams on queue reforms. You will also develop conceptual designs of interconnection facilities, assist in wind farm and solar collection system design, and provide technical support during construction phases. The role requires a BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with experience in power systems analysis using software like PSS/E or PowerWorld, as well as knowledge of FERC and NERC standards.
Perform power flow analysis and market evaluations for generation projects.
Review utility interconnection studies to assess feasibility and impact.
Identify new transmission project opportunities based on grid behavior changes.
Develop conceptual designs of interconnection facilities and estimate costs.
Coordinate with consultants to prepare system models and reliability studies.
Interpret market rules affecting the interconnection process and project operation.
What we're looking for
BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with power systems focus
0-2+ years experience in transmission system planning and compliance
Ability to perform complex power flow, short circuit, and stability studies
Knowledge of FERC and NERC standards related to transmission and interconnections
Experience with regional power system studies and planning assessments
Proficiency in using power flow software like PSS/E or PowerWorld
Strong verbal and written communication skills for technical roles
