As a Data Scientist at the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), you will join a dynamic team focused on leveraging advanced statistical techniques, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to address complex cybersecurity challenges for government and industry clients. Your daily responsibilities include identifying areas where data science can provide solutions, developing prototype models, and building final products that influence national cybersecurity strategy. You’ll collaborate with elite professionals and university faculty on cutting-edge projects involving generative AI, computer vision, multimodal AI, and assurance of AI systems. The role requires proficiency in predictive modeling, statistical techniques, and advanced analytics tools such as Python, R, or MATLAB, along with experience deploying models using frameworks like FastAPI, TensorFlow, or PyTorch. Experience in cybersecurity and U.S. Government work is beneficial but not mandatory.
Develop and implement advanced statistical techniques to solve cybersecurity challenges.
Plan and execute prototype solutions using machine learning and AI for cybersecurity projects.
Craft metrics and experimental designs for large-scale cybersecurity research programs.
Build classifiers to identify security vulnerabilities in software or systems.
Present findings from data analysis and machine learning studies at academic conferences.
Co-author research proposals and contribute to the development of new cybersecurity technologies.
What we're looking for
BS in data science or related field with 8 years of experience, or MS with 5 years, or PhD with 2 years.
Experience in predictive modeling, data science, and AI/machine learning.
Proficient in mathematical/statistical programming packages like R, Python, MATLAB.
Expertise in recommendation systems, time-series forecasting, NLP/LLMs, causal inference.
Ability to deploy models using FastAPI, Triton, KServe, SageMaker, Vertex AI.
Experience working with big data technologies such as Spark, Trino, Snowflake.
