About the Role

The Marketplace Fairness Team is an applied science policy team that assesses bias in products, projects, and machine learning models. The team’s work typically comprises deep, long-term investigations into potential fairness concerns on the platform. It works with product and data science teams to understand a product, and it works with legal and policy teams to translate policy concerns into quantitative analysis. Areas of focus include safety products, earner deactivations, marketplace dynamics across neighborhoods, and implementation of Responsible AI principles.

Responsibilities

• Conduct deep investigations into the platform and across products
• Conduct fairness testing to assess products, projects, or machine learning models for bias.
• Present results to lawyers, leadership, and the people who create these products
• Help build AI/ML governance

1. Deeply proficient in doing data analysis in Python
2. Proficient with SQL

---- Preferred Qualifications ----

1. PhD in Economics.
2. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with ability to collaborate cross-functionally and translate technical findings for non-technical audiences.
3. Ability to proactively identify research questions relevant to business or policy.
4. Project management skills and experience working in a cross-functional environment with legal, policy, and business leaders.
5. Passion for making Uber’s platform work better for all types of users.
6. Minimum 1 year of quantitative research or data science experience.
7. Strong data skills and experience with tools such as SQL, Python, and R to work efficiently at scale.
8. Ability to work independently and execute a research plan with minimal oversight
9. Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to synthesize research results into clear, actionable insights accessible to broad audiences.

For New York, NY-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$161,000 per year - USD$179,000 per year.

For San Francisco, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$161,000 per year - USD$179,000 per year.

For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber's bonus program, and may be offered an equity award & other types of comp.
