What this job involves:
This role is responsible for the continuous operation, maintenance, and reliability of data center and critical facility infrastructure. The position ensures all electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and life-safety systems operate safely and efficiently, while protecting and enhancing the value of client assets. The role also oversees contractors, supports preventive maintenance programs, and ensures strict compliance with safety, critical work, and emergency procedures.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Installing, repairing, maintaining, and monitoring electrical, mechanical, and plumbing/piping systems located inside and outside the building.
- Conducting routine rounds, tests, and data analysis to ensure proper operation of data center infrastructure and departmental equipment.
- Responding to and completing maintenance service requests efficiently, minimizing disruption to building operations.
- Diagnosing equipment malfunctions, determining root causes, and implementing corrective actions to restore proper operation.
- Performing and coordinating preventive maintenance activities, including scheduling work to minimize impact to critical services.
- Monitoring and maintaining all building systems, including HVAC, electrical distribution, UPS, PDUs, generators, fire/life safety, emergency backup, and hot water systems.
- Overseeing contractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with safety standards, critical facility procedures, and warranty obligations.
- Maintaining accurate records, including engineering logs, equipment readings, maintenance documentation, and drawings/manuals.
- Supporting emergency response activities and ensuring compliance with escalation procedures and Critical Facility Work Authorization (CWA) processes.
Desired experience and technical skills:
- Hands-on experience installing, repairing, and maintaining critical facility infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
- Proven ability to monitor operations, analyze system performance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and take corrective action.
- Experience scheduling, performing, and delegating preventive maintenance with minimal disruption to building services.
- Knowledge of data center systems including UPS, emergency generators, switchgear, PDUs, HVAC, chilled water, boilers, and control systems.
- Ability to manage inventory, order parts and equipment, prepare purchase-order requests, and ensure adequate tools and supplies are available.
- Experience training and mentoring staff on tool usage, safety practices, troubleshooting, and professionalism.
- Strong understanding of safety practices, hazardous material handling, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Ability to oversee contractors, ensure adherence to engineering standards, technical bulletins, and critical awareness processes.
Minimum Requirements:
- Hands-on experience in a data center or critical facility environment, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgear.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- 5+ years of related work experience, including supervisory experience.
- Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent.
- Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs (or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment).
- Working knowledge of computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
Preferred:
- Experience in large-scale or mission-critical data center environments.
- Advanced training or certifications related to electrical, mechanical, or critical facilities operations.

Estimated compensation for this position:
89,440.00 – 95,680.00 USD per year
This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
