Position Summary
The Staff Software Development Engineer – IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) is a lead, hands-on technical leader responsible for designing, developing, and supporting enterprise integration solutions using IBM ACE and IBM MQ. This role blends deep technical expertise with team leadership, delivery ownership, production stability, and operational excellence. The individual will lead complex integration initiatives, mentor developers, ensure adherence to DevSecOps and change management standards, and play a key role in disaster recovery preparedness and execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and support of enterprise integration services using IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) and IBM MQ
- Act as technical lead and subject matter expert, guiding solution design and architectural decisions
- Develop and support microservices-based integrations, including RESTful, SOAP, and event-driven services
- Perform hands-on development using ESQL, Java Compute, mapping, and transformation techniques
- Review designs and code to ensure:
- Reusability
- Performance efficiency
- Security compliance
- Enterprise integration standards
- Own production stability, including:
- L2/L3 incident support
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
- Performance tuning and defect remediation
- Lead and participate in change and release management activities, ensuring smooth deployments across environments
- Support and execute Disaster Recovery (DR) planning, testing, and failover activities
- Mentor and coach team members; support onboarding and knowledge transfer
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, DevOps, and business teams to deliver resilient integration solutions
- Ensure adherence to DevSecOps and CI/CD processes
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of overall IT experience, with significant experience in enterprise integration technologies
- 3+ years experience in hands-on expertise in IBM App Connect Enterprise (ACE) (v11/v12 )
- 7+ years experience with IBM MQ, including:
- Queue Managers
- Channels
- Security
- Clustering and HA setups
- 7+ years of experience in:
- ESQL
- Java Compute
- JSON, XML, SOAP, XSD, WSDL
- Synchronous and asynchronous messaging patterns
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of Linux/Unix operating systems, including:
- Log analysis
- Process monitoring
- Basic shell scripting
- Demonstrated experience in Disaster Recovery (DR) support, testing, and validation
- Proven experience designing and implementing microservices architectures
- Experience with IBM API Connect and API lifecycle management
- Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment frameworks
- Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, AppDynamics, or Dynatrace
- Experience working in regulated or high-availability environments (Healthcare, Insurance, Financial Services)
- Prior experience mentoring or leading onshore/offshore teams
- Knowledge of integration security concepts (TLS/SSL, certificates, OAuth/JWT – nice to have)
- IBM ACE and/or IBM MQ certifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
