Position Summary
As a Distinguished Engineer for the AI‑Enabled Sales Platform within Walmart Global Tech’s Advertising Technology organization, you will serve as a preeminent technical leader and visionary. You will be responsible for the architectural evolution of high‑scale systems that leverage generative AI, intelligent automation, and massive data infrastructure to transform how advertisers engage with Walmart. This role is for a distinguished technologist who can navigate the complexity of enterprise‑scale distributed systems while pioneering the next generation of AI‑driven sales tooling and measurement.
About the team The Sandman/Ad-tech team consists of experienced Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, and Full Stack technologists focused on delivering scalable, data-driven solutions for Walmart. This multidisciplinary group integrates AI, software engineering, and data science to develop autonomous AI agents, deploy reliable applications, and build core engineering capabilities at enterprise scale. Utilizing data, AI, and agile methods, the team drives innovation that enhances operational efficiency and supports Walmart’s mission. Collaboration within the team fosters the creation of intelligent systems that improve business performance across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Architectural Vision & Strategy
Define and drive the multi‑year architectural vision for Walmart’s Advertising Technology platforms, ensuring solutions are scalable, extensible, and durable. Establish reference architectures, platform standards, and design guardrails adopted across AdTech, Sales Enablement, and partner systems. - AI Innovation
Architect platforms that integrate generative AI, intelligent automation, and large‑scale data infrastructure to power advertiser and sales workflows. Drive adoption of AI agents and multi‑step reasoning systems by combining LLMs, structured ML pipelines, and orchestration layers for real‑world use cases. - Technical Excellence & Rigor
Set the gold standard for engineering practices. Oversee the design of advertising platforms and end‑to‑end ML pipelines, ensuring performance optimization, reliability, and scalability across global distributed systems. - Cross‑Functional Influence
Partner with senior leadership across Product, Sales, and Business teams to translate ambitious business goals into executable technical architectures. - Mentorship & Culture
Act as a force multiplier by mentoring Principal and Staff Engineers, amplifying impact through others, and fostering a culture of technical curiosity, inclusive design, and high accountability.
What You’ll Bring
- Deep Technical Mastery
Expertise in large‑scale distributed systems, data platforms, and cloud‑native architectures. - Platform Thinking
A proven track record of building platform‑as‑a‑product environments that support complex, multi‑tenant operational workflows. - AI / LLM Expertise
Experience integrating generative AI and intelligent automation into business‑critical production systems at enterprise scale. - Strategic Leadership

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 15+ years of software engineering experience, including platform architecture and large‑scale systems.
- Significant experience building data‑intensive or AI‑enabled platforms in production environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant technical discipline.
- Prior experience operating at Principal, Distinguished, or Fellow‑level technical roles.

Sunnyvale, California US-11349: The annual salary range for this position is $169,000.00 - $338,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
