Principal Applied Science Manager | Microsoft Careers
$139900 - $274800/year
Job Description
Overview
Search is the front door to knowledge in Viva Engage. It is how employees discover people, conversations, and critical information across their organization. As we evolve into an artificial intelligence (AI) first product, search is rapidly becoming an intelligent, personalized, and agent-driven experience powered by large-scale machine learning (ML) and Large Language Models (LLMs).
As a Principal Applied Science Manager – Search & Applied AI, you will lead a team at the intersection of applied science and engineering to build state-of-the-art search, ranking, and AI-powered discovery experiences. You will be responsible for driving relevance, personalization, and knowledge retrieval across Viva Engage by combining deep applied science rigor with strong engineering execution.
This role offers the opportunity to define and execute the next generation of search experiences—spanning semantic retrieval, embeddings, LLM-powered ranking, and agentic workflows—while directly impacting millions of users. You will partner closely with product, engineering, and platform teams across Microsoft to deliver measurable improvements in user engagement, success rates, and time-to-value.
Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.
