Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Staff Software Engineer to join our engineering team. This role involves designing, developing, and implementing scalable enterprise applications. As a Staff Software Engineer on the team, you will be responsible for designing and developing high-quality software that meets business needs. The ideal candidate will have aptitude for logical reasoning and problem-solving skills, contribute to solution architecture, mentor junior developers, and collaborate across teams to drive innovation and delivery excellence.
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of applications
- Strategic thinking – able to identify a vision along with the plans, which need to be implemented to meet the end goal, evaluating situations, decisions, and issues in the short, medium, and long term
- Analytical thinking - able to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts explore and evaluate them systematically
- Collaborate across functional teams of the organization including business, product, architecture, security mavens, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality software
- Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code using best practices and design patterns
- Provide technical leadership to solve complex problems by analyzing and developing solutions strategies, coordinating with multiple teams
- Mentor junior members of the team to develop their technical skills
- Manage deployments using tools like GitHub Actions.
- Monitor and optimize application performance and troubleshoot production issue
- Leverage AI coding tools to streamline development workflows and improve code quality
- Participate in code reviews, tech talks, and workshops to foster a culture of learning and collaboration
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of technology delivery experience in designing, developing, and deploying applications
- Languages: COBOL, JCL, CICS, Rexx and Easytrieve
- Databases and Tools: DB2, IDMS, VSAM, SPUFI, QMF, Data studio
- Mainframe Tools: File-Aid, Abend-Aid, Expeditor, Sync Sort, Zeke and IBM Utilities.
- Configuration & Version Control: Endeavor
- API enablement (z/OS Connect, IBM API Connect)
- MQ Series (IBM MQ) – messaging and integration
- IMS-DB to DB2 Data migration, processes on mainframe
- DB2 for z/OS – advanced SQL, performance tuning, stored procedures, and utilities
- RACF (Resource Access Control Facility) – security administration and auditing.
- 10 + years of experience year in the healthcare or health insurance industry with deep understanding of health care value chain
- 5+ years of experience with Agile processes, such as scrum, Kanban, and/or the Scaled Agile Framework
- Experience with Web services (SOAP/REST) integration with mainframe applications
- Experience working on Azure or GCP Cloud Applications/services
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with distributed teams, working across multiple time zones and geographies
- Experience in making informed decisions quickly and taking ownership of services and applications at scale
- Comfortable assisting in technical and security audits and ensure audit recommendations are implemented
- Strong understanding of delivery practices
- Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Exposure to AI/ML model deployment or prompt engineering.
- Experience working with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes and JIRA tools
- Adept at collaboration, execution, and continuous learning
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience
Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$130,295.00 - $260,590.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
