JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly accomplished Senior R&D Manager to lead advanced algorithm development for intravascular imaging systems, with a primary focus on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Physiology. This role will drive innovation at the intersection of imaging physics, cardiovascular physiology, and artificial intelligence, translating cutting‑edge research into clinically meaningful, product‑ready technology.
The successful candidate will provide both technical and people leadership, manage a team of algorithm engineers and scientists, and work extensively cross‑functionally and with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to define and execute new research studies, clinical investigations, and exploratory technology development.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Scientific Leadership
- Lead the design, development, and validation of advanced algorithms for intravascular OCT imaging and Physiology
- Drive the integration of AI / machine learning approaches (e.g., deep learning, data‑driven analysis) into intravascular imaging pipelines
- Apply a strong understanding of cardiovascular physiology to algorithm design, interpretation, and validation
People & Organizational Leadership
- Build, lead, mentor, and inspire a team of highly skilled R&D engineers and scientists
- Establish best practices for algorithm development within a regulated medical device environment
- Set technical vision and execution strategy aligned with product and technology roadmaps
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with systems engineering, hardware, catheter development, clinical, regulatory, quality, and product teams to translate research concepts into productized solutions
- Serve as the algorithm R&D representative in cross‑functional program reviews and technical decision‑making forums
- Support design controls, verification & validation, and regulatory documentation for algorithm‑based features
KOL & Research Engagement
- Partner with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), clinicians, and academic collaborators to define, design, and execute new clinical and translational research studies
- Contribute to study design, endpoint definition, hypothesis generation, and data interpretation
- Support early feasibility, exploratory research, and post‑market studies as needed
- Represent the organization in scientific exchanges, research discussions, and collaborative investigations
Innovation & Intellectual Property
- Stay current with advances in intravascular imaging, AI in medical imaging, and cardiovascular science
- Contribute to the company’s intellectual property strategy through invention disclosures, patents, and publications
Required Qualifications
- PhD preferred (or MS with significant relevant experience) in:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering
- Medical Physics
- Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in medical imaging R&D
- Solid foundation in cardiovascular anatomy and physiology
- Demonstrated experience applying AI / machine learning techniques to imaging or signal processing problems
- Exp working within Python and C++
- Proven ability to lead and mentor technical teams while remaining scientifically engaged
- Experience delivering complex algorithms into regulated medical device products
- Strong communication skills and ability to influence across technical, clinical, and business stakeholders
Preferred / Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with CT and/or Angiographic imaging, including multimodality data fusion or comparative analysis
- Background in hybrid physics‑based and AI‑driven algorithm frameworks
- Experience working with clinical data sets, human imaging studies, and statistical evaluation
- Prior involvement in IDE, early feasibility, or post‑market clinical studies
- Record of publications and/or patents in medical imaging, AI, or cardiovascular technologies
The base pay for this position is
$129,300.00 – $258,700.00
In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
