Position Summary...

Building the right technology foundation for Infrastructure & platforms is vital to success at the scale of Walmart. Included in this are data platforms, enterprise architecture, DevOps, cloud computing, and infrastructure. What you'll do...

Join Walmart Global Tech's Data Platform Services organization as an Edge Cloud Computing System - Software Engineer II to develop Edge cloud database systems that autonomously monitor, predict, and resolve issues across the world's largest retailer's technology ecosystem, impacting millions of customers and associates globally. You'll lead the transformation of traditional Database Managing/Supporting practices into cutting-edge, self-healing platforms that serve as the intelligent backbone for database administration across all of Walmart's systems, from e-commerce to stores to supply chain.
What you'll do:
You’ll contribute to building and supporting reliable database platforms that help power Walmart’s stores and facilities. You’ll work with experienced engineers to implement technical solutions and tools for Walmart Technology teams across various channels and geographies.
Database Engineering & Solution Delivery:

  • Assist in developing and maintaining database solutions and platforms for Walmart’s
  • technology ecosystem.
  • Help implement architecture patterns for scalability, maintainability, and
  • performance.
  • Support the creation of observability and monitoring interfaces for anomaly detection and analytics.
  • Participate in building APIs for edge database solutions and integrating with operational systems.

Engineering Excellence & Code Quality:

  • Write code that is readable, maintainable, and efficient, following team standards.
  • Apply best practices for testing, performance optimization, and monitoring.
  • Help develop automation and agents using AI technologies as guided by senior engineers.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve basic performance issues in distributed applications.
  • Assist with CI/CD pipelines for database systems, including deployment and validation.
  • Learn and adopt new technologies and frameworks as part of your growth.

Collaboration & Teamwork:

  • Work closely with engineering partners and cross-functional teams to deliver solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with designers and product managers to improve user experience.
  • Engage in a culture of learning, asking questions, and sharing knowledge.

What You'll Work With:

  • Database platforms: MariaDB, Postgres, Informix (nice to have but not mandatory),
  • Tools & languages: Ansible, Python, Shell scripting, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, GitHub, Kubernetes, Looper
  • Modern frontend tooling and testing framework
  • CI/CD systems such as Jenkins

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 1+ years of experience as a software engineer
  • Familiarity with Python, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, GoLang, and Ansible
  • Experience with React or similar JavaScript frameworks is a plus
  • Understanding of containerization and Kubernetes is helpful
  • Exposure to RDBMS database architecture (e.g., Postgres, MariaDB)
  • Basic understanding of caching, logging, performance tuning, and monitoring
  • Experience with GitHub and version control best practices
  • Exposure to unit testing and CI/CD systems such as Jenkins
  • Comfortable working in a distributed team and communicating asynchronously
  • Eagerness to learn, collaborate, and grow within the team

The annual salary range for this position is $80,000.00 - $155,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
