Walmart is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship. The successful candidate will collaborate across teams to translate complex business needs into actionable solutions, promote engineering best practices, and continuously improve processes. About the team:
The Converse platform team develops and scales chat applications managing millions of messages daily across Walmart. The team builds robust, scalable infrastructure supporting generative AI workflows using technologies such as Java, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms. Members collaborate to design and implement high-performance solutions aligned with business objectives. Focused on technical excellence and continuous improvement, the team engages in impactful projects that enhance communication experiences organization-wide. This environment encourages innovation and hands-on involvement in creating scalable, reliable software solutions that drive operational success.
What you'll do:
- Deliver platform capabilities including infrastructure, tooling, and ML frameworks aligned with roadmap priorities.
- Drive full software development lifecycle activities such as coding, testing, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance.
- Apply cloud-native architecture principles to ensure scalable, resilient, and agile systems.
- Lead system design reviews to validate quality and alignment with architectural standards.
- Build AI-driven applications and integrate ML components to enhance automation and intelligence.
- Mentor engineers, influence technical decisions, and promote engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define technical requirements and track success metrics.
- Continuously improve processes, tools, and product quality through innovation and feedback.
What you'll bring:
- Proven expertise in cloud-native architecture, including microservices, containers, and automation to ensure scalable and resilient systems.
- Strong experience in software design patterns, API design, and software prototyping to deliver maintainable and modular solutions.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, Rust, Dart, or C++.
- Demonstrated ability to lead full software development lifecycle activities, including CI/CD deployment, observability, and maintenance.
- Skilled in DevOps engineering practices and infrastructure tooling to enhance engineering productivity.
- Experience applying data-driven decision making to optimize development processes and measure success metrics.
- Ability to conduct thorough design reviews and remedial actions to maintain high-quality deliverables.

The annual salary range for this position is $143,000.00 - $286,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...
