Job Description

Working independently, responsibilities include the following related to Computer, Network, Storage, Cloud and End-User infrastructure: Perform infrastructure project assignments. Plan, research, evaluate and design infrastructure solutions.

Location: Prefer candidate to live within 50 miles of Columbus, OH

What You'll Do:

  • Administer F5 BIG-IP (LTM, DNS, ASM/WAF)
  • Perform firmware/software upgrades, patching, capacity planning, and performance tuning in the F5 environment
  • Responsible for deploying, operating, and supporting Infoblox DDI (DNS, DHCP, IPAM) solutions to ensure reliable name resolution, IP address management, and DHCP services across the enterprise.
  • Administer Infoblox Grid/NIOS appliances and virtual instances (deployment, provisioning, upgrades)
  • Name resolution integration with F5 DNS.
  • Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide 24x7 support.
  • Develop and plan network incident resolution, configuration audit and updates, as well as vulnerability remediations.
  • Provide a high level of technical support and analysis, operation, administration, and troubleshooting activities. Adhere to AEP’s approval processes as part of change management, incident management and trouble response scenarios.
  • Prepare cost estimates, justifications, application requirements, alternative solutions, and technical recommendations.
  • Prepare technical documentation including procedures, manuals, and reports.
  • Review and adhere to budgeting and approval processes while assisting with annual and project planning.
  • May provide training and mentoring, as well as work direction, to others on the team.

Additional Experience Preferred:

  • Direct support of Network Operations in a large enterprise environment, preferably within the utility or energy sector. ServiceNow or similar ITIL experience is a plus.
  • Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, firewalls used for troubleshooting across network teams
  • Desired experience configuring, managing, and troubleshooting Cisco ASA/Firepower or Palo Alto Next‑Generation Firewalls, including policy creation, NAT, VPNs, and security profiles.
  • Prior experience in highly regulated industries and change management processes.
  • An advanced understanding of network communications technologies and an demonstrate the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, coordinate and resolve complex network issues and projects.
  • Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP)
  • Strong knowledge and experience with IPAM-DDI solutions
  • Strong knowledge and experience supporting F5 DNS, GTM and Local traffic Manager (LTM)
  • Knowledge of network security practices
  • Familiarity with hardware (routers, switches, firewalls)
  • Experience with network monitoring tools
  • Knowledge in routing and switching protocol, WAN technologies including MPLS, Point to Point, MAN and Wireless; LAN technologies including LAN design standards and best practices, Data Center network Design and Wireless solutions; and security standards with firewall, design and best practices
  • Scripting using BASH, Python
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to clearly communicate complex findings and present them to ensure audience appeal at various levels of the organization and with clients

Licenses/Certifications: Cisco CCNA/CCNP

Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical field is required.

Experience: 7 years of relevant work experience is required. An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.
