Job Description

Position Summary...

As Director of Technology Operations for MP Agentic solutions, you will lead the operational backbone enabling Walmart Marketplace's next generation of AI-powered, agentic solutions. You will drive the design, monitoring, and continuous improvement of large-scale programs that bring agentic AI capabilities from concept to production—safely, efficiently, and at the speed the business demands.

This role sits at the intersection of AI platform operations, marketplace business strategy, and enterprise execution. You will own the operational infrastructure that allows agentic systems—autonomous AI that can reason, plan, and act on behalf of associates and sellers — to scale reliably across Walmart's global marketplace footprint.

You will work backwards from the challenges and opportunities our MP associates face in their day to day functions, as well as work backwards from our LRP aspirations – it will include working across 7+ officers and their organizations in seller and item acquisition, category planning and account management, seller success which includes pricing incentives and listing quality, Seller risk, seller standards, Seller support and risk operations, WFS, Seller Fulfilled, cross border, global marketplaces in US, CA, MX, CL as well as sellers based in 16+ countries and growing. Your priority and primary goal will be to identify the opportunities to inject/build agentic solutions for our associates and our sellers with the intent to create a highly efficient, effective and AI empowered workforce – and sellers.

About MP Global Agentic Solutions

At Walmart, we serve hundreds of millions of customers and work alongside hundreds of thousands of sellers, who trust us to help them operate on a trustworthy platform and transact. The Global MP Agentic team exists to supercharge that mission—harnessing the power of agentic AI to make Walmart Marketplace the easiest, trustworthy and most intelligent place on earth to sell and to shop.

Our agents won’t just assist—they will act. From autonomously guiding sellers through onboarding, setup and lifecycle, to empowering our MP associate workforce to automate and scale their capabilities of seller acquisition, item acquisition, seller and item setup, seller support functions, account management functions, ambiently finding bad actors/items -  our agentic systems will be purpose-built to remove friction, unlock scale, and grow the breadth and depth of Walmart's global assortment and seller base.

Seller Growth at Scale: Agentic systems that recruit, onboard, and accelerate sellers globally—reducing time-to-first-sale and expanding Marketplace assortment across categories and geographies.

Intelligent Catalog Expansion: Autonomous agents that enrich, validate, and optimize product listings—ensuring quality, discoverability, and compliance at a pace no human team could match.

Shopper-First Commerce: AI that understands intent, personalizes discovery, and empowers sellers to build and serve the products our customers want —strengthening loyalty and driving conversion across every channel.

Operational Excellence: Agentic workflows that streamline the end-to-end Marketplace experience—from pricing and inventory intelligence to dispute resolution and fulfillment coordination.

What you'll do...

Agentic Program Definition & Architecture

Apply knowledge of program management frameworks and AI/ML platform dependencies to define integrated operational plans for large-scale agentic deployments (10+ domains across Marketplace).

  • Define charters, statements of work, module owners, and performance baselines for all agentic platform modules—from LLM inference infrastructure to agent orchestration layers and marketplace integrations.
  • Apply understanding of AI/ML operational factors—model latency, reliability, drift, safety guardrails—and their interdependencies with business functions to recommend solutions that work across Marketplace verticals.
  • Translate ambiguous agentic business goals (e.g., 'autonomous seller onboarding') into clear, executable program definitions with measurable outcomes.

Risk Estimation & Agentic Safety Operations

Leverage risk assessment frameworks and AI-specific risk tooling to ensure the safe, reliable scaling of autonomous systems:

  • Identify and categorize risks unique to agentic deployments: hallucination risk, agent loop failures, unintended autonomous actions, model versioning drift, and regulatory exposure.
  • Design scenario-based response plans and red-team exercises for agentic failure modes across multiple concurrent Marketplace programs.
  • Define success measures and milestone gates reflecting both technical performance (latency SLAs, safety metrics) and business impact (GMV lift, seller NPS, buyer conversion).

Program Monitoring, Control & AI Observability

Use program monitoring processes and AI observability tooling to maintain visibility and control across the full agentic stack:

  • Decompose agentic program KPIs into actionable metrics for individual AI teams—model teams, platform engineers, product, and data science.
  • Track program progress and develop forecasts that account for AI-specific volatility: experiment velocity, model retraining cycles, and infrastructure provisioning timelines.
  • Guide teams on implementation and use of AI governance and observability tools to improve throughput, safety, and effectiveness of agentic Marketplace programs.

Financial Management & AI Investment Stewardship

Own the financial lens for agentic platform investments within Marketplace:

  • Create, manage, and monitor program budgets spanning GPU compute, model serving infrastructure, data labeling, and engineering talent.
  • Provide AI-specific estimation and budgeting inputs to Annual Operating Plans (AOPs) and Long Range Plans (LRPs).
  • Project and track the ROI of agentic investments, connecting infrastructure spend to measurable Marketplace outcomes.

AI Platform & Technology Landscape Awareness

Maintain and apply current knowledge of the agentic AI technology landscape to inform operational and investment decisions:

  • Understand the strategic linkages between LLM/agent infrastructure, Marketplace systems, and broader Walmart platform strategy.
  • Evaluate and implement proposed scenarios for agentic initiatives, providing technical insights that influence executive decision-making.
  • Translate Marketplace business requirements into AI strategies, initiatives, and executable projects aligned to enterprise objectives.
  • Challenge AI architecture assumptions within your domain; develop new org-wide processes for agentic operations and teach best practices broadly.

Stakeholder Alignment & Executive Communication

  • Communicate complex agentic AI considerations—architecture trade-offs, safety constraints, capacity requirements—clearly to both technical and business audiences.
  • Independently prepare concise, logically structured executive materials covering risks, opportunities, and decisions for senior Walmart leadership.
  • Influence engineering, product, data science, and governance teams to take meaningful action through sound, fact-based recommendations.

Business Operations & Continuous Improvement

  • Design planning processes and decision-making channels suited to the fast, iterative cadence of agentic AI development.
  • Develop business cases for agentic investments; review and challenge cases from partner teams with a critical, outcome-oriented lens.
  • Proactively identify process inefficiencies and drive repeatable, scalable operational improvements across the Marketplace AI portfolio.
