About Team:
The Acquisition and Discovery Engineering team at Walmart provides a seamless and delightful shopping experience to millions of shoppers worldwide. As a software engineer in this team, you will have the opportunity to work on top of the funnel shopping experience – Homepage, Content Pages for SEO and SEM, Search & Browse experiences, Deals and Item pages across mobile and web platforms.
This collaborative team made up of Engineering, UX, Product Management, Business and Analytics is rapidly iterating on new products and site features at scale. We deliver high performing solutions on our next generation front-end platform. Virtual Try-On, Gen AI integration, personalized complete-the-look, Video shopping, etc are just a few examples of the features developed by this team in collaboration with many other teams. Continuous experimentation, innovation and feedback by millions of customers makes this work even more exciting!
What You Will Do
- Design, develop, and maintain high-quality Android features using Kotlin and XML-based UI layouts.
- Collaborate closely with product managers, designers and backend engineers to deliver seamless, secure, and intuitive mobile experiences.
- Participate in technical design discussions and implement scalable, testable, and maintainable solutions.
- Own end-to-end feature delivery - from development to deployment and production monitoring with guidance from senior engineers when needed.
- Write clean, well-tested code and actively contribute to code reviews, ensuring adherence to engineering best practices.
- Optimize app performance, reliability, and user experience using profiling tools, crash analytics, and performance monitoring dashboards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues using observability tools (e.g., OpenObserve), ensuring timely closure.
- Work within a modular architecture and contribute to systems integrating with GraphQL APIs and microservices-based backends.
- Develop and maintain automated test suites (unit, functional, and E2E) to ensure high-quality releases.
- Evaluate and integrate third-party SDKs and APIs to enhance customer engagement, following internal approval processes.
- Contribute to continuous improvements in development workflows, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering practices.
- Stay updated with the latest Android ecosystem advancements, Google platform updates, and mobile development trends.
- Drive operational excellence by ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of production systems using AI-driven monitoring, alerting, and incident management.
- Champion engineering excellence through best practices such as code reviews, design reviews, and CI/CD, leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
- Implement AI-powered solutions for proactive issue detection, automated root cause analysis, and self-healing systems to reduce downtime and improve system resilience.
- Define and track key engineering and operational metrics, utilizing AI/analytics to drive continuous improvement and data-driven decision-making.
- Foster a culture of innovation by adopting modern AI technologies, encouraging experimentation, and continuously improving development and operational workflows.
What You Will Bring
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 2–6 years of hands-on experience in Android development, preferably in consumer-facing or e-commerce applications.
- Strong proficiency in Kotlin and solid experience with Android SDK, Views, and XML-based UI development.
- Proven experience building Android applications using MVVM or Clean Architecture patterns.
- Deep understanding of Kotlin Coroutines, including Flow and LiveData for reactive and lifecycle-aware programming.
- Experience integrating with GraphQL (Apollo Client) and/or RESTful APIs.
- Familiarity with JavaScript, Node.js or Rust, with the ability to contribute to full-stack applications is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of asynchronous programming, concurrency, and data handling.
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems like Git, and modern development workflows.
- Experience writing and maintaining automated tests (unit, integration, functional/UI tests).
- Practical experience with debugging, performance tuning, and using tools such as profilers and crash analytics.
- Familiarity with mobile analytics, A/B testing, and personalization techniques is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, clear communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

The annual salary range for this position is $117,000.00 - $234,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
