Job Description

Position Summary...

What you'll do...

As the Sr. Manager, Systems Engineering for the In-Store Retail Media (ISRM) team, you will spearhead the technical strategy for one of Walmart’s most visible and high-growth consumer touchpoints. Leading a team of specialized engineers, you will be responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of our digital signage and media hardware, moving the organization away from fragmented legacy systems toward a unified, automated architecture. You will play a pivotal role in our "Power of ONE" initiative, integrating ISRM assets into the Endpoint Management and Control Center (EMCC) to achieve unprecedented operational visibility and self-healing capabilities. By driving hardware-agnostic standards and leveraging real-time telemetry, you will ensure our global media network is resilient, scalable, and optimized for both associate ease-of-use and maximum advertiser impact.

About Team:In-Store Retail Media (ISRM)
Our team is focused on developing a streamlined, dependable company that includes service operations and technology solutions for Finance, People, and Associate Digital Experience (ADE). We also provide a variety of services such as procurement, supplier portfolio management, merchandising master data, and analytics. From developing HR chatbots and virtual assistants to creating invoice solutions and facilitating legal changes, we help drive efficiency across Walmart globally. The In-Store Retail Media (ISRM) team is a high-impact engineering and operations unit dedicated to transforming Walmart’s physical stores into a sophisticated, digital-first advertising network. As a cornerstone of the "Scalable Agility" strategic objective, the team manages the end-to-end lifecycle of a diverse global fleet of digital signage, media players, and supplier-installed displays.

What you'll do:

1. Strategic Technical Leadership & Vision

Define and execute the long-term engineering roadmap for the In-Store Retail Media ecosystem. You will serve as a key architect of change, transitioning legacy hardware environments into a modern, software-defined infrastructure. Your leadership will ensure that technical debt is minimized and that all engineering efforts align with the broader organizational goals of scalability and vendor independence.

2. Innovation & Emerging Technology Integration

Drive a culture of innovation by identifying and prototyping next-generation hardware and software solutions. You will lead the "hardware-agnostic" movement, evaluating emerging technologies to ensure the organization is never locked into a single provider. Your focus will be on building a flexible, future-proof stack that can rapidly adopt new capabilities—such as advanced sensors or interactive media—without a complete infrastructure overhaul.

3. Operational Excellence & Autonomous Systems

Champion the shift from reactive maintenance to proactive, automated operations. You will oversee the development of "Environmental Intelligence" systems that leverage telemetry and machine learning to predict failures before they occur. By prioritizing self-healing workflows and zero-touch deployments, you will reduce operational friction and eliminate the need for manual intervention at scale.

4. Engineering Mentorship & Organizational Growth

Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing systems engineering team. You are responsible for fostering a collaborative environment that values technical rigor, continuous learning, and ownership. You will balance hands-on technical guidance with strategic talent development, ensuring the team has the skills necessary to manage an increasingly complex and automated global device footprint.

5. Cross-Functional Synergy & Business Alignment

Act as a bridge between technical engineering teams and business stakeholders to ensure operational outcomes meet commercial objectives. You will advocate for the "Power of ONE" philosophy—driving consistency across different business units to ensure that engineering standards support overall business agility, cost reduction targets, and a seamless end-user experience.

What you'll bring:

1. Strategic "Platform-First" Architecture

The ability to design systems not as individual toolsets, but as a unified platform. A successful candidate possesses the architectural vision to move from fragmented, vendor-specific silos to a cohesive "single pane of glass" environment, ensuring all engineering efforts contribute to a standardized global ecosystem.

2. Obsession with Automation and Scalability

A fundamental commitment to "automation-by-default." This individual must have a proven track record of implementing zero-touch workflows and self-service capabilities that allow the organization to scale exponentially without a corresponding increase in manual labor or operational headcount.

3. Data-Driven Decision Making

The capability to translate complex technical telemetry into actionable business intelligence. They should excel at using real-time data to move the organization from a reactive maintenance posture to a proactive, predictive model that ensures high availability and performance across all technical assets.

4. Change Leadership and Influencing

The executive presence to lead teams through significant cultural and technical shifts. This role requires the ability to align diverse stakeholders—from frontline operations to executive leadership—around a shared vision of innovation, while navigating the complexities of large-scale organizational transformation.

5. Commitment to Operational Excellence

A relentless focus on building resilient, high-availability systems. This candidate must demonstrate a deep understanding of lifecycle management and a passion for engineering out friction, ensuring that every deployment is stable, secure, and optimized for a seamless end-user experience.
