Summary

As a Data Scientist, you will have the opportunity to work both independently and with a cooperative team on complex projects that may span multiple infrastructure components or applications. You will develop your professional network and leadership skills, assisting in the creation and support of AI/ML/Automation Solutions that enable Caterpillar success. Further, you will contribute real value by developing, integrating, and/or supporting in-house and purchased applications or infrastructure solutions to solve business problems. You will define the relationships, flows and implementation of business (processes/activities/functions, information), applications, data and technology in the enterprise and the transitional process necessary for implementing technology in response to changing business needs. Additional Info: This role is located in Morton, IL and does not offer relocation This role requires up to 20% domestic travel

What You Will Do

Analyze the data to discover patterns & trends Perform Descriptive, Predictive & Prescriptive Data analytics Collaborate with Data Engineers, Functional and Business Teams Monitor and Support Production Models. Communicate to business partner issue impact and resolution. Handle business partner inquiries, coordinating the resolution with the various support groups What You Have (Required Skills): Business Statistics: Knowledge of the statistical tools, processes, and practices to describe business results in measurable scales; ability to use statistical tools and processes to assist in making business decisions. Machine Learning: Knowledge of principles, technologies and algorithms of machine learning; ability to develop, implement and deliver related systems, products and services. Programming Languages: Knowledge of basic concepts and capabilities of programming; ability to use tools, techniques and platforms in order to write and modify programming languages. Query and Database Access Tools: Knowledge of data management systems; ability to use, support and access facilities for searching, extracting and formatting data for further use. Requirements Analysis: Knowledge of tools, methods, and techniques of requirement analysis; ability to elicit, analyze and record required business functionality and non-functionality requirements to ensure the success of a system or software development project. What Will Put You Ahead (Preferred Skills): Overall, 5-7 years’ experience with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Data Science Should have expertise in Data Analysis, Data Visualization, Statistical Modelling, Machine Learning and Deep Learning, Agentic Framework Proficiency in Python and SQL Working experience in LLMs and Agentic Framework Sound knowledge in Business Intelligence, Big Data & Cloud database concepts like AWS/Azure Databricks Have strong focus on continuous learning. Certifications in the related tools & technologies will be added advantage Relevant master’s or bachelor’s degree Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills Candidate should be flexible to work in rotational shifts including night shifts Client/Business partner facing skills, ability to run workshops and articulate the business needs 3+ years of production experience working in Data Science, Machine Learning within supply chain, Logistics, Packaging, Transportation, Procurement or other high data volume domains Experience / knowledge with large language models (LLMs) and AI agents (e.g., Lang Chain). Proficiency in developing applications with at least one compiled language – Streamlit, Gradio Solid production experience using Python (including Various Libraries), PySpark and SQL and expert level production experience with Apache Spark, MLLib Experience using Azure/AWS to build end to end distributed technical solutions and as well as general cloud native applications. Knowledge of NLP techniques such as text classification, summarization, and embeddings. Exposure to MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLflow, Docker, Kubernetes). Strong fundamentals in problem solving, algorithm design and complexity analysis. Hands-on experience with web APIs. Experience with data wrangling, feature engineering, and model evaluation techniques. Familiarity with DSML platform (Dataiku / Databricks), version control systems (Git) and cloud platforms (Azure). Knowledge of NLP techniques such as text classification, summarization, and embeddings. Exposure to MLOps practices and tools (e.g., MLflow, Docker, Kubernetes). Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Plotly, Dash, Power BI). Experience with cloud-native architecture and container orchestration (particularly Docker and Kubernetes) preferred. Experience utilizing Git, Azure DevOps, MLflow CI/CD, and MLOps frameworks for best practice code management and collaboration. Experience with Searching Technology like Elastic Search and something similar is a plus Dashboarding and data visualization tools is a plus. Familiarity with streaming frameworks as well as relational and streaming analytics frameworks is a plus. Broad knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, caching technologies, serialization formats, and their use in designing and optimizing ML systems is required. Experience in Packaging Engineering or Logistics or Supply chain Domain knowledge Design, train, and optimize machine learning or deep learning models relevant to packaging or logistics or supply chain or Engineering design related big data, such as defect detection, quality prediction, optimization modeling, or sustainability assessments. Experience of production level deployed projects using AI Camera or Computer Vision System Experiments with algorithms and frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Scikit‑learn, PyTorch3D, Open3D Packages models into APIs or microservices for seamless integration with packaging systems or business platforms. Deploys AI/ML models into cloud, edge, or on‑premises environments to support real‑time insights and automation. Builds user interfaces or dashboards for visualizing AI outputs or interacting with deployed models. Handles backend logic and integrates AI services with core packaging or logistics or Supply chain or engineering or other business applications. Tracks and evaluates model performance post‑deployment to ensure stability and accuracy. Implements model retraining strategies, error‑handling mechanisms, and scalability improvements. Pay Range

$97,530.00 - $158,480.00 Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
