What’s the role?
You'll be the hands-on builder behind Bilt's AI infrastructure - designing and implementing centralized platforms, agents, and guardrails that let teams at Bilt leverage AI effectively. You'll work closely with engineering leadership to translate strategy into production-grade systems: standing up MCP gateways, cloud-based sandboxed execution environments, and wiring agentic tooling into our SDLC, CI/CD, and operational workflows. The right person has deep infrastructure and platform engineering chops and has spent the last few years building with and on top of LLMs and agentic systems.
In this role, you will:
- Architect and build a centralized AI platform that plugs into Bilt's ecosystems
- Build and maintain hardened sandbox environments for autonomous code execution with persistent storage, snapshot/restore, and security isolation
- Design and implement custom sub-agents, skills, and steering guidelines that encode Bilt-specific domain knowledge and architectural patterns into agentic workflows
- Wire AI tooling into our SDLC
- Build integrations that extend AI capabilities to non-engineering teams (Slack bots, database query agents, session replay ingestion, telemetry analysis) and automate ops workflows
- Evaluate and integrate third-party agentic tools and platforms, ensuring they are a good fit for Bilt's systems and infrastructure
- Define and document engineering standards and best practices for AI-assisted work across the org
In terms of qualifications, we’re seeking:
- 6+ years of experience, with most recent experience as an AI Engineer
- Strong infrastructure/platform engineering background. You've built and operated complex distributed systems and developer tooling.
- Deep, hands-on experience with the modern AI tooling stack
- Security-minded by default. You think about auth, permissions, egress control, identities, and blast radius when designing agentic systems
- Track record of automating workflows and eliminating manual toil at an organizational level
- Bias toward shipping practical, production-hardened solutions over prototypes and proofs of concept

We are considering candidates with differing levels of expertise for this position. Leveling will be based upon your experience and performance in the interview process.
Where a new hire falls within a range will be based on their skills and experience, and how these competencies compare across other employees in the same role. Bilt's bands are designed to allow for individual compensation growth within the role. As such, new hires typically start at the lower end of the range. Bilt Rewards performance and outcomes - should you join the company, you will have the opportunity to grow your salary over time.
The salary range for a AI Engineer is$200,000 - $240,000 (based on YOE/level), and you will be eligible for equity and an annual performance-based bonus.
