Job Summary The Caterpillar Oil & Gas and Marine Division has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Digital Technical Specialist in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In this role you will direct and participate in the concept, design, delivery, and support of complex data integrations with Oil & Gas and Marine customer assets and equipment enabling predictive analytics and Customer Value Agreements. What You Will Do: Lead the design and lifecycle support of complex digital and data integration solutions for Oil & Gas and Marine customer assets, enabling predictive analytics and value-based service offerings. Design and integrate end to end industrial systems, including data acquisition, communications, networking, and software integration, ensuring solutions meet reliability, scalability, and serviceability requirements. Define and translate customer and business requirements into technical solutions for telematics, industrial communications, and digital product deployments in operational environments. Serve as a senior technical authority and liaison between Caterpillar, dealers, and customers, supporting deployment, issue resolution, and continuous improvement of digital products and applications. Provide hands on field support and technical leadership, including commissioning, troubleshooting, and resolution of critical customer issues in Oil & Gas and Marine applications. Own investigation and resolution of significant field issues, performing root cause analysis, data evaluation, and validation testing, and driving corrective actions across engineering and service teams. Lead product performance monitoring efforts, with global accountability for reliability, durability, maintainability, and serviceability of assigned digital products throughout their lifecycle. Support new product introduction (NPI) and long-term product strategies, conduct serviceability audits and providing input to design targets and support plans. Develop and deliver technical documentation, training materials, and knowledge resources to support dealers, internal partners, and customers, improving adoption and reducing warranty cost and customer impact. What You Will Have: Systems Thinking: Knowledge of the critical interdependencies among individual system elements that help and hinder performance; ability to plan and design solutions that synchronize resources to achieve business results. Level Working Knowledge: Monitors systems after interventions to confirm success and to diagnose new or remaining problems. Analyzes the dynamics of a system to determine key characteristics, properties, and functions. Attributes systemic problems correctly to interpersonal dynamics when appropriate. Escalates systemic problems that impede group performance. Surfaces problems within systems and searches for root causes. Application Design, Architecture: Knowledge of basic activities and deliverables of application design; ability to utilize application design methodologies, tools and techniques to convert business requirements and logical models into a technical application design. Level Basic Understanding: Describes basic activities and deliverables associated with application design. Discusses technical architecture relevant to own environment. Identifies technical application architecture standards and considerations. Names the specific tasks, activities and deliverables of technical application design. Systems Software Infrastructure: Knowledge of computer architecture and system software interaction; ability to design and build a fundamental architecture of operating systems, database management systems, communications protocols, compilers and other development tools. Level Working Knowledge: Reports software connectivity and integration issues. Demonstrates planned software changes on the local environment. Administers software migration and contingency plans related to own function. Analyzes the local software architecture components and products. Tests key features for the entire software infrastructure environment. Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation. Level Extensive Experience: Emphasizes the business impact of failure and the criticality and timing of needed resolution so that problems can be avoided in the future. Creates trouble reports for all issues found and reviews solutions for completeness and correctness. Directs the resolution of communications problems in multi-vendor environments. Resolves a variety of hardware, software, and communications malfunctions. Coaches others on advanced diagnostic techniques and tools for unusual or performance-related problems. Facilitates the distribution of releases reports and correction packages to departments or clients. Top Candidates Will Have: Experience working with telematics systems and wireless transmission technologies to support data communication between equipment and monitoring platforms Familiar with telematics and wireless transmission that enable real-time equipment data transmission Additional Information: Relocation is not available for this position.
